Summary

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) is a nonprofit dedicated to defending free speech and free thought in the United States. The Graphic Designer creates print and digital design content across the organization, applying and helping maintain FIRE’s brand standards in collaboration with the Senior Graphic Designer.

What you'll do

  • Design and produce print materials (e.g., reports, pamphlets, newsletters, swag, signage, books, event materials, flyers) using Adobe Creative Cloud tools (primarily InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Prepare print-ready files and manage production specifications (bleeds, trims, packaging files, proofs).
  • Apply FIRE’s brand standards consistently and recommend refinements or exceptions when appropriate.
  • Maintain organized working files and production-ready exports in accordance with departmental practices.
  • Design digital assets including infographics, social media and campaign assets, email graphics, and web images for Communications and other departments.
  • Produce assets in appropriate sizes and formats for specific channels and platforms.
  • Collaborate with the in-house Web Developer, Marketing team, and other stakeholders to meet implementation requirements.
  • Support a consistent visual identity across campaigns and channels with the Senior Graphic Designer.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and communicate timelines, status updates, and review/approval needs to stakeholders.
  • Track deadlines and priorities in project management software (Asana) and ensure quality, accuracy, consistency, and production readiness.
  • Identify when freelance/contract support is needed and communicate resourcing needs to the Senior Graphic Designer and/or VP of Communications.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional graphic design experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience), demonstrated through a portfolio.
  • Strong proficiency in typography, layout, composition, and visual hierarchy.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Working knowledge of print and digital production standards, including print-ready setup and screen-optimized exports.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with colleagues and internal clients.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with well-developed quality-assurance practices.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and sound judgment within established brand standards.
  • Knowledge of and passion for FIRE’s mission.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Conditions

  • Location: Hybrid; based in-office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or Washington, D.C. (not eligible for fully remote work).

  • Schedule: Occasional evening and weekend work expected; minimal travel.

  • Start date: As soon as possible.

  • Compensation: Salary range stated as $60,000–$75,000 annually; periodic evaluations may include raises or bonuses for exceptional work.
