Assistant Designer

Banana Republic (Gap Inc.) is a heritage apparel brand creating high-quality, thoughtfully designed collections for the modern explorer. The Assistant Designer supports the design team by researching trends, developing concepts and sketches, and partnering cross-functionally to deliver product that meets brand standards for style, fit, quality, and value.

• Research global markets to identify seasonal trends, silhouettes, fabrics, techniques, product categories, and competitive inspiration.
• Assist in developing concepts and sketches for the product line and present design ideas to internal leadership and cross-functional partners.
• Build strong relationships with Merchandising, Production, Technical Design, Sourcing (GIS), Visual Merchandising, and Marketing to support concept-to-store/site execution.
• Partner with Production and Technical Design to create tech packs and communicate fit and design vision to ensure quality and margin targets.
• Ask effective questions, solicit feedback, and incorporate input to understand business and customer needs.
• Attend fit sessions with a manager and revise sketches and design packages based on priorities.
• Manage design process administration, including creating presentation boards and following up to keep deadlines on track.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, highly collaborative environment while juggling multiple seasons and tracking development deadlines.
• Strong sense of style, aesthetics, and color; ability to translate trends through customer and brand perspective.
• Knowledge of silhouette, fit, fabrication, construction, color use, sewing techniques, and trim; applied understanding of garment construction methods.
• Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to recognize and act on inconsistencies in data or results.

• Salary range: $57,500–$71,900 USD per year (pay varies by qualifications, experience, skill level, competencies, and work location).
