Manager, People Operations

Summary

The San Francisco 49ers are seeking a Manager, People Operations to support a championship-level employee experience across the organization. This role leads key people programs such as benefits, wellness, compliance, and leave administration while supporting compensation administration, employee relations, and engagement events.

What you'll do

  • Manage communication and execution of employee benefits programs (health insurance, voluntary benefits, COBRA, PTO, company holidays) and serve as primary liaison with brokers and vendors.
  • Develop and execute monthly employee wellness initiatives, including vendor contracting, budget management, and event execution.
  • Review, audit, and process weekly enrollments and monthly benefits billing.
  • Administer leave of absence programs, including paperwork distribution/collection and internal communications.
  • Lead the interactive process for ADA accommodations.
  • Partner with Risk Manager on Workers’ Compensation claims and compliance with California Heat Illness Prevention Plan requirements.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance filings and reporting (Form 5500, EEO-1, California Pay Data Reporting, ACA reporting, and other federal/state/local requirements).
  • Compile People Operations analytics (turnover trends, employee survey insights, People Ops calendar, workplace/event utilization).
  • Plan and manage employee engagement events (monthly team huddles, in-season celebrations, ad hoc experiences).
  • Deliver first-day onboarding presentations; maintain onboarding materials; distribute new hire and benefits communications.
  • Support employee relations by conducting investigations and applying policies/discipline consistently.
  • Conduct/support exit interviews for full-time staff.
  • Maintain HRIS and timekeeping records; run ad hoc HRIS reports.
  • Provide backup support for the People Operations Coordinator.
  • Maintain current knowledge of HR best practices and applicable employment laws; ensure compliant processes and reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience administering benefits and leave programs (required).
  • Knowledge of current federal and California labor and benefits laws/regulations (required).
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification (preferred).
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems and HR applications (e.g., HRIS/timekeeping systems).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills, including complex spreadsheets, presentations, and narrative/statistical reporting.
  • Strong empathy-based listening and communication skills (verbal and nonverbal).
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to build trust and relationships across all organizational levels with inclusive communication.
  • Highly organized with strong time management, ability to manage multiple priorities, and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Conditions

  • Location: Office environment; may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Schedule: Ability to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
