Summary
The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art is seeking a Graphic Designer to support the Communications & Advancement team. The role creates engaging visual materials to advance the Museum’s brand, exhibitions, programs, and community presence while delivering high-quality design services across departments.
What you'll do
- Design print and digital materials for museum programs, exhibitions, events, advertising, and promotions.
- Create visual assets for special exhibitions, including marketing collateral, in-gallery graphics, and supporting materials.
- Develop graphics for advertising campaigns, social media, email marketing, and other digital channels.
- Apply established visual identity standards to maintain brand consistency across projects.
- Collaborate with communications, education, and curatorial teams to translate goals into design solutions.
- Prepare production-ready files for print and digital distribution.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail.
- Participate in creative reviews and incorporate feedback into revisions in a timely, professional manner.
- Assist with general creative services needs as assigned.
Requirements
- Foundational graphic design skills (layout, typography, color, visual hierarchy).
- Experience producing print and digital design work through coursework, internships, freelance, or professional roles.
- Ability to follow brand guidelines while contributing creative ideas.
- Familiarity designing for print, social media, email, and web platforms.
- Strong time-management skills and ability to balance multiple deadlines.
- Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accurate, high-quality work.
- College degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Strong portfolio demonstrating design skills, creative thinking, and technical proficiency (required).
- Proficiency in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) (required).
- Additional skills such as illustration, photography, video/audio editing (plus).
- Interest in museums, arts, culture, or nonprofit work (plus).
Conditions
- Schedule primarily Monday through Friday; flexibility required based on department needs.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours may be necessary for programs and events.
- Work schedule flexibility and remote work may be available depending on department needs.
