Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer

N-iX is seeking a Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer for a leading European AI company developing large language models and generative platforms. In this role, you will take ownership of PostgreSQL architecture, tuning, and operations across business-critical systems as part of a 12 FTE team ensuring continuity and full coverage.

• Take ownership of PostgreSQL architecture, tuning, and long-term maintenance
• Lead PostgreSQL operations as systems transition under internal ownership
• Ensure database availability, reliability, and performance in production environments
• Design and maintain high-availability, replication, backup, and recovery strategies
• Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve PostgreSQL issues
• Perform query optimization, indexing strategies, and configuration tuning
• Plan and execute upgrades, migrations, and maintenance activities
• Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards
• Collaborate closely with backend, platform, and infrastructure teams
• Maintain clear operational documentation to support shared ownership across multiple FTEs
• Participate in support/on-call rotation to ensure operational continuity

• 5+ years of commercial experience with PostgreSQL
• Experience with PostgreSQL performance tuning, database architecture, operations and maintenance in production
• Proven experience managing PostgreSQL in mission-critical environments
• Strong expertise in backup, restore, replication, and high-availability setups
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL troubleshooting and incident resolution
• Ability to independently own and operate PostgreSQL systems
• Comfortable working in a shared-responsibility model (12 FTE split across multiple specialists)
• Strong communication skills and experience working with cross-functional engineering teams
• Solid Linux fundamentals
• Upper-Intermediate level of English

Nice to have: Experience operating PostgreSQL at scale, familiarity with cloud-based PostgreSQL solutions, monitoring and alerting tools, Infrastructure as Code, platform engineering/SRE/DevOps background, experience in regulated or security-sensitive environments

On-call rotation required to ensure operational continuity. Shared responsibility model across 12 FTE specialists. Designed to ensure continuity during planned and unplanned absences.
