Sr. Financial Crimes Analyst

Varo Bank is an all-digital, mission-driven, FDIC-insured bank focused on expanding financial inclusion. The Senior Financial Crimes Analyst supports Varo’s Financial Crimes Investigations program by supervising investigative work and strengthening AML effectiveness. The role focuses on identifying and mitigating financial crime risks and improving investigation processes and procedures.

• Review alert, case, and SAR narratives submitted by the team.

• Oversee and mentor analysts, providing investigative feedback and QA/QC support.

• Collaborate with peer groups and leaders to ensure applicable risks are mitigated during investigations.

• Gather feedback and recommendations and translate them into business requirements to improve AML program effectiveness.

• Support project-based work with risk, product, and fraud operations to recommend enhancements, efficiency gains, and process improvements.

• Refine procedures to ensure risks are appropriately mitigated.

• Experience at FinTechs or innovative financial institutions with knowledge of BSA/AML regulations and financial crime compliance.

• 2+ years of transaction monitoring and surveillance investigations experience in AML, counter-terrorism, anti-bribery, and/or anti-fraud.

• 2+ years of experience as an intelligence analyst or in counter-threat finance within or supporting the DoD, IC, law enforcement, or related communities.

• Experience reviewing alerts, conducting case investigations, and drafting/filing SARs.

• Ability to use judgment to make risk-based decisions with current (and sometimes limited) information.

• Ability to prioritize workflows and meet deadlines.

• Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and collaborative communication skills, including coaching and feedback conversations.
