Senior Backend Engineer (Python, Node.js, DevOps)

Summary

UKAD is a growing Israeli cybersecurity startup seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build and evolve the core of their cybersecurity product. You'll work on scalable backend systems, lead impactful refactoring across microservices, and make thoughtful architectural decisions with cost efficiency in mind. This role emphasizes ownership, clarity, and long-term technical impact.

What you'll do

  • Work closely with engineers, Team Leads, and C-level stakeholders in a highly collaborative, Agile environment
  • Take strong ownership of backend systems and mentor other developers
  • Build and evolve Python and Node.js (TypeScript) microservices, delivering new features while driving cloud cost optimization
  • Own production systems end to end: monitoring, debugging, performance tuning, and incident handling
  • Design and evolve backend architectures with a thoughtful balance of scalability, performance, cost, and long-term maintainability
  • Partner with DevOps to continuously improve infrastructure, workflows, and system reliability
  • Take full ownership of features from design to production, ensuring quality and impact

Requirements

  • Strong, hands-on Python experience (must-have, high priority) for building scalable backend systems and APIs
  • Solid experience with Node.js (TypeScript)
  • Solid understanding of software architecture and distributed systems
  • Hands-on experience with databases and storage: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, AWS S3, Athena, Kafka, SQS/SNS
  • Skilled in testing (unit, integration, e2e) and production-grade DevOps: AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines
  • Collaborative mindset with high ownership and ability to mentor other developers while working across teams
  • Startup experience essential, with ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Plus: Experience with Dagster or similar data orchestration platforms
