Summary
The Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller, Palm Beach County is hiring a Junior Inspector General to provide professional auditing and investigative services for assigned departments. The role supports audits and investigations to evaluate effectiveness and compliance, and to identify fraud, waste, abuse, unethical conduct, and mismanagement. The position also supports guardianship integrity assurance through audits, investigations, education, monitoring, and outreach.
What you'll do
- Assist with conducting audits, investigations, and other reviews in accordance with applicable professional standards and Inspector General principles.
- Execute audit and investigative procedures, including developing objectives and work programs, identifying and evaluating key risks, and assessing internal controls.
- Evaluate compliance with policies, laws, regulations, and good business practices.
- Conduct interviews; collect, document, and analyze relevant information; and conclude on results and conditions.
- Assist with investigations involving fraud, waste, abuse, ethical misconduct, and mismanagement.
- Support and help manage the investigation intake process, including reviewing correspondence, updating case tracking reports, conducting fact-finding research, and analyzing complaint data.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable laws and regulations and stay aware of trends in governmental auditing and investigative practices.
- Prepare audit and investigative findings and recommendations; present findings to management and assist with report preparation.
- Travel to Clerk of the Circuit & Comptroller office locations as required.
- Use computer applications and software to perform job responsibilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field, supplemented by internships, relevant coursework, experience, or professional certifications in auditing/accounting, or familiarity with governmental operations/public-sector processes.
- Two (2) years of recent and relevant experience preferred.
- Education substitution: additional four (4) years of experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree; additional two (2) years may substitute for an associate’s degree.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Preferred professional certification or demonstrated commitment to obtain one: CPA, CIA, CIGA, CIGI, CFE, or CGAP.
