Human Resource Generalist

The Human Resource Generalist (HR Consultant) role is a fully remote, client-facing position supporting multiple organizations with HR guidance, employee relations, and change initiatives. The purpose of the role is to drive strong HR outcomes for clients through trusted advisory, project execution, and compliance-focused support.

What you'll do

  • Serve as a dedicated HR partner and trusted advisor to a portfolio of client organizations across diverse industries.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with client leadership; provide proactive, responsive HR guidance.
  • Lead complex employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
  • Coach managers on performance management, documentation, and difficult conversations; design and implement performance improvement frameworks.
  • Lead end-to-end HR projects such as policy development, process redesign, and organizational change initiatives.
  • Create and execute change management plans; manage multiple client projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Prepare and present recommendations and presentations to senior leadership.
  • Advise on benefits plan design, open enrollment coordination, and carrier transitions; partner with brokers and vendors to resolve escalations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws (including ACA, FMLA, ADA, FLSA).
  • Develop HR communications and materials (policies, handbooks, memos, training content) and facilitate trainings/workshops.
  • Support payroll-related inquiries and collaborate on deduction audits, compliance corrections, and reporting (preferred).

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive HR generalist experience with strong employee relations and performance management foundation.
  • Experience in a client-facing, consulting, or multi-client HR support environment.
  • Project management ability to manage competing priorities across multiple clients.
  • Change management experience leading organizations through transitions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, adaptable from frontline managers to C-suite.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment law and HR compliance across federal and state jurisdictions.
  • Ability and willingness to work West Coast hours (Pacific Time) while fully remote.
  • Self-directed and highly organized; able to operate independently with minimal oversight.
  • Preferred: HR consulting/PEO/HRO experience; benefits administration and vendor management; payroll audit/compliance support; PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP; proficiency with HRIS and Microsoft Office.
