Security Officer (Part-Time)
Summary
The San Diego Padres are hiring a part-time Security Officer to support safety and security operations at Petco Park. This role focuses on patrolling the ballpark, controlling access, conducting screening, and responding to incidents to maintain a safe environment for guests, employees, and partners.
What you'll do
Patrol ballpark property to ensure the security of employees, contracted partners, visitors, and guests while providing excellent customer service.
Conduct magnetometer screening and bag searches.
Regulate and control access to restricted and secure areas.
Respond to safety and criminal incidents in accordance with training and policy, including coordinating with emergency services when needed.
Conduct internal investigations and produce detailed, objective shift and incident reports.
Attend briefings to understand scheduled events/activities and load-in/load-out status.
Serve as a first responder for alarms, medical calls, and property damage issues.
Maintain confidentiality on sensitive matters.
Maintain accurate notes and logs; communicate pass-on information to the next shift.
Complete activity logs, incident reports, and other documentation clearly and on time.
Greet clients, employees, guests, and vendors professionally.
Follow established Ballpark Security protocols and procedures.
Collaborate with internal departments to help create positive publicity for the Club.
Represent the Club positively and professionally; perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age by start of employment.
High school diploma or GED plus two years related experience/training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid current driver’s license with a good driving record (subject to review).
Maintain consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance.
High degree of discretion, integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
Strong written/oral communication and interpersonal skills; ability to use initiative and independent judgment within guidelines.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Must possess BSIS Security Guard license or be able to obtain it within the first 30 days.
Physical requirements: access various areas of the ballpark; stand for prolonged periods; ascend/descend stairs; lift/transport up to 25 pounds; ride a bicycle for prolonged periods.
Preferred: experience in large public assembly facilities; large event security; law enforcement/public safety; criminal justice or recognized security training; report writing; Avigilon CCTV (plus); bilingual English/Spanish (plus).
Must successfully complete post-offer, pre-employment requirements including background check.
Conditions
Part-time, non-exempt; reports to Ballpark Security Manager.
Pay rate: $21.14 per hour (subject to increases per San Diego Living Wage Ordinance for part-time, non-union employees).
Non-event days: must be available to work at least three shifts per month; shifts may be 8-hour or 4-hour assignments; scheduled as needed with no guaranteed minimum hours.
Event days: must be available to work at least 75% of all scheduled events during the calendar year (home games, full-venue events, Gallagher Square concerts).
