Junior Designer
Summary
Scholastic is seeking a Junior Designer to join the Trade Art Department and support day-to-day design operations for children’s book publishing. The role focuses on managing design and production workflows for a limited number of titles, coordinating with internal teams and freelancers to deliver files and proofs on schedule.
What you'll do
- Manage design and production for a limited number of titles per year in collaboration with art department leadership.
- Route passes to Editorial and Production and coordinate feedback cycles.
- Scan artwork and handle related asset preparation.
- Relay notes to illustrators and designers and help identify illustrators that fit manuscript and market needs.
- Pre-flight releases, release files, and support file delivery processes.
- Coordinate with freelance designers and manage outside purchases end-to-end.
- Manage the proof process on select titles and support reprint edits as needed.
- Support building schedules and coding invoices when needed.
- Support creation of Launch, Sales Conference, Catalog, and Art Management presentations.
- Respond to timely requests from Marketing and Sales.
- Attend bi-weekly production status meetings for assigned projects and weekly staff meetings.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Conditions
Location: New York City; minimum of two days per week in the SoHo office (some teams may require additional in-office attendance).
Schedule: Full-time.
