Summary

The Common Market is a nonprofit social enterprise building a resilient and equitable food system by connecting family farmers with institutions such as schools, hospitals, and universities. The Human Resources Manager strengthens hiring, onboarding, and early employee development systems to help attract, support, and retain operational and sales teams across a growing national network.

What you'll do

  • Own and coordinate full-cycle recruitment for operational and sales roles (drivers, warehouse staff, operations managers, sales outreach/support).
  • Manage job postings, applicant tracking, and candidate pipelines; conduct initial screenings and coordinate multi-stage interviews.
  • Ensure a consistent candidate experience and coordinate pre-employment requirements (background checks, drug testing, driver compliance).
  • Partner with senior leadership to prepare and deliver offer letters.
  • Own and coordinate onboarding processes across teams and locations; serve as primary point of contact for new hires during onboarding.
  • Coordinate onboarding logistics with internal teams (IT access, equipment, uniforms) and with Finance (payroll and compliance documentation).
  • Coordinate development and rollout of 30/60/90-day onboarding plans; track milestones and progress.
  • Support weekly check-ins and feedback loops; identify training gaps and coordinate solutions with supervisors.
  • Partner with Executive Directors and managers on professional development planning; track goals and follow-through.
  • Maintain HR operations and compliance: align practices with employment laws/standards, maintain records, support audits, standardize SOPs.
  • Coordinate workplace safety processes: incident reporting, safety data tracking, trend identification, safety reviews/audits.
  • Track workers’ compensation and insurance claims; liaise with carriers/brokers; ensure timely submissions and maintain reporting.
  • Support employee relations during onboarding/early tenure; help address early performance or engagement issues and reinforce accountability and professionalism.
  • Support corrective action processes: conduct investigations, assist with write-ups, and coordinate termination documentation and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • 3–5 years of Human Resources experience with a focus on recruiting and onboarding.

  • Experience hiring for operational or hourly roles (warehouse, logistics, drivers, etc.).

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple processes simultaneously and coordinate across teams.

  • Experience in multi-site or operational/frontline environments preferred.

Conditions

  • Based in one of four hubs: Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston, or Chicago.

  • Travel expected up to ~25% overall (approximately two days per month per other hub location).

  • Reports to the Chief Financial Officer; partners cross-functionally with Operations, Sales, IT, Finance, and executive/senior leadership.
