Summary
International Dairy Queen (IDQ), part of Berkshire Hathaway, is hiring an Instructional Designer to support restaurant performance and guest experience through modern, outcome-driven learning solutions. The role designs scalable, digital-first curriculum and partners cross-functionally to align training with operational priorities and brand standards.
What you'll do
- Conduct needs assessments to identify capability gaps and translate findings into learning strategies tied to business outcomes.
- Apply backward design to define desired outcomes first, then build aligned content, activities, and assessments.
- Select and recommend appropriate delivery modalities (classroom, virtual, on-demand, microlearning, performance support, blended).
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Operations, Marketing, R&D, HR, Franchise Support) to support launches and operational changes.
- Design and develop learning assets (eLearning, videos, guides, job aids, simulations, interactive modules, performance tools, assessments).
- Create inclusive, learner-centered content aligned to brand, quality, accessibility, and operational standards.
- Support development and evolution of learning paths and role-based curricula for in-restaurant roles.
- Partner with the LMS team to upload, structure, test, and maintain content; manage metadata and course settings.
- Gather and analyze feedback and learning metrics; iterate content using continuous improvement practices.
- Maintain version control, governance, and documentation for training materials.
- Engage stakeholders and SMEs to define needs, manage expectations, communicate progress, and support implementation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Communications, HR, Adult Learning, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of experience designing and developing training programs and curriculum (preferably in retail, restaurant, franchise, or operational environments).
- Experience designing learning across modalities (in-person, virtual, blended, eLearning, microlearning).
- Experience working with an LMS and/or LXP.
- Experience partnering with business leaders and subject matter experts to assess needs and design solutions.
- Strong knowledge of instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, Backward Design) and adult learning theory.
- Ability to translate complex operational processes into clear, learner-friendly training.
- Strong writing, communication, facilitation, and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to influence without authority.
- Data-informed approach to measuring effectiveness and improving learning solutions; strong organizational and project management skills.
- Authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship (E-Verify).
