Summary

The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), the union for NBA players, is seeking an Associate Director, People & Culture to help execute and continuously improve people programs across the full employee lifecycle in a lean organization.

This hands-on HR Business Partner role supports internal staff with practical guidance across core People & Culture processes while helping optimize operations and strengthen the employee experience.

What you'll do

  • Serve as a hands-on HR Business Partner providing guidance and execution support across core talent processes.
  • Execute and strengthen people programs across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, development, and off-boarding.
  • Develop and standardize foundational HR processes to ensure compliance, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Provide backup support for payroll processing and benefits administration to ensure continuity and compliance.
  • Maintain HR systems and workforce data; leverage insights to improve decision-making and processes.
  • Lead and support HR projects from planning through execution, adoption, and change implementation to improve efficiency and employee experience.
  • Manage communications, rollout, and reinforcement of new HR practices and change initiatives.
  • Support organizational change and growth by balancing strategic advising with direct execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Progressive human resources experience, including HR Business Partner or senior HR generalist experience.
  • Experience working in lean or small HR environments, balancing strategic advisement with hands-on execution.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. employment laws, HR compliance, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and improve HR programs, policies, and processes across the employee lifecycle.
  • Ability to partner effectively with leaders and employees with practical, solutions-oriented guidance.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and improving HR programs across the employee lifecycle.
  • High integrity and comfort handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
