Chessable is their leading chess e-learning platform, and they seek an experienced Senior Fullstack Developer to build and maintain applications at scale with a mission-driven, flat, no-corporate culture.

What you'll do

  • Work with experienced engineers on building new and maintaining existing functionalities for Chessable and Chess.com courses
  • Contribute to technology and architecture decisions for new solutions
  • Build and release applications for millions of users across all stack layers: infrastructure, databases, DevOps, backend, and frontend
  • Supervise AI agents for high-impact architectural decisions, security, and scalability using AI-first engineering mindset
  • Ensure code quality, performance profiling, and stability through best practices and design patterns
  • Collaborate with a distributed team of talented engineers

Requirements

  • Experience with PHP 7.4+ and at least two popular PHP frameworks (Slim, Symfony)
  • Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript with React and Vue.js
  • Experience with MySQL and relational databases
  • Experience with ElasticSearch, SOLR, MongoDB, or other popular NoSQL databases
  • AI-first mindset and prompt engineering skills
  • API-first design proficiency with RPC, RESTful, or GraphQL APIs
  • Familiarity with message brokers: Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis Pub/Sub, or Amazon SQS
  • Performance profiling and debugging skills with tools like XDebug or Blackfire
  • CI/CD orchestration experience with automated testing and static analysis (PHPStan/Psalm)
  • Understanding of programming best practices and design patterns
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills in fully distributed teams
  • Sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Chess player preferred
