Entry Level Background Investigator

Summary

CACI is an industry-leading provider of federal background investigations supporting national security missions. The Entry Level Background Investigator conducts interviews and records reviews to resolve case issues and establish subjects’ suitability and qualifications. The role uses virtual teleconferencing as the primary method, with additional phone and in-person work as needed.

What you'll do

  • Conduct comprehensive interviews with subjects, employers, associates, and references using VTC (primary), phone, and in-person methods.
  • Review appropriate records to obtain facts and document findings.
  • Resolve all material issues in assigned cases to establish background, reputation, character, suitability, or qualifications.
  • Use multiple electronic tools and systems simultaneously to maintain workflow efficiency and productivity.
  • Attend multiweek virtual online training and participate in shadowing/mentorship with an experienced investigator.
  • Travel locally as assigned and potentially support temporary duty (TDY) assignments across the U.S., typically about 2 weeks.

Requirements

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of general experience demonstrating progressive responsibility in problem solving, planning/organizing work, and effective written and oral communication.

  • Clearance/Eligibility: Minimum clearance required to start: Top Secret; ability to obtain and maintain a favorable determination based on a T5 Investigation.

  • Ability to navigate and utilize multiple technology systems simultaneously.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including communicating sensitive information, active listening, and clear presentations.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Impeccable integrity, professionalism, and strong work ethic.
  • Current driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and willingness to travel locally based on assignment.
  • Home office with reliable high-speed internet.
  • Ability to sit, type, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Nice to have: Active Top Secret clearance based on a T5.

Conditions

  • Type: Full-time, regular employee.
  • Travel: Up to 10% local travel; potential TDY assignments across the U.S. (typically ~2 weeks).
  • Work methods: Interviews conducted via VTC (primary), phone, and in-person.
  • Training: Multiweek intensive virtual/online training plus shadowing and mentorship.
  • Home office: Requires high-speed internet; $50/month internet stipend provided.
