Restoration Ecologist - Corona, CA

Summary

Environmental Assessment Services, LLC (EAS), a Natives of Kodiak subsidiary, is an environmental services firm specializing in assessment, compliance/permitting, and resource management. The Restoration Ecologist provides technical leadership on ecological restoration projects while supporting project management from planning through close-out. The role focuses on leading field work, mentoring staff, and ensuring restoration outcomes meet performance standards and permit requirements.

What you'll do

  • Oversee restoration site maintenance, including invasive species control, remedial planting/seeding, irrigation application, and irrigation system maintenance.
  • Hire, lead, and supervise field crews and support mentoring of staff.
  • Prepare monthly restoration reports and technically review quarterly/annual monitoring reports prepared by subcontractors.
  • Ensure projects meet ecological performance standards and permit requirements.
  • Lead design and implementation for new ecological restoration projects (e.g., wetland, riparian, coastal, upland, habitat restoration).
  • Develop restoration plans, planting/monitoring plans, and adaptive management strategies.
  • Conduct site assessments, vegetation surveys, and baseline monitoring.
  • Analyze monitoring data and prepare technical memoranda and reports.
  • Assist the Project Manager with planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation; track progress, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and field crews; develop cost estimates, bids, and change orders.
  • Serve as project lead in client meetings and support communication with regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, landscape architects, and construction managers; promote safety, quality control, and best practices.
  • Support proposal development, scope writing, and technical reporting; contribute to client relationship building and project pursuits.
  • Review deliverables for regulatory compliance (local, state, federal), alignment with planning objectives, and contractual requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Restoration Ecology, Ecology, Botany, Environmental Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an ecologist/botanist with field experience on restoration projects (wetland delineation a plus).
  • Knowledge of California coastal plant communities.
  • Experience conducting biological field studies and preparing technical documents.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS and Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, writing, and reporting skills.
  • Experience supporting project management tasks (budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor coordination).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions; ability to perform physical requirements including occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
