Librarian I
Summary
Performs professional level duties to assist library patrons and maintain library collection of materials. * Answer questions from library patrons; assist in locating materials; and instruct patrons in the effective use of library equipment and resources; * Assist paraprofessional and clerical staff in circulation as needed; * Select, order and maintain records of money spent for materials; * Review current literature of library and publishing companies to keep abreast of available materials, programs, and library procedures; * Plan and conduct programs for children and adults; * May supervise library support staff; * Participates in ongoing professional development to keep abreast of new trends and developments; * Must work some evenings and weekends as a regular part of a rotating schedule. * Perform related duties as required. **Requirements** Completion of a master degree in library science, or ability to complete degree requirements within six months, or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following: Valid Current Driver's License **Knowledge Of** * Principles and practices of library science; * Computer applications related to library functions. * Dewey Decimal System, OCLC, **Ability To** * Effectively provide customer service to library patrons; * Evaluate library materials; * Develop and implement library programs; * Operate computer and software; * Display flexibility when new types of materials or methodology or software become available; **Physical Requirements** * Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds; * Frequently walk and stand during a shift; * Occasionally kneel; * Frequently push and pull objects; * Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing; * Reach above, at or below shoulder height; * Frequently handle objects; * Frequently crouch or stoop.
