Backend Engineer

Headway Inc is a global EdTech company ranked 4th among the World's Top EdTech Companies by TIME magazine, helping over 150 million users worldwide. We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our new team transforming the EdTech industry by building and evolving mission-critical backend services.

• Build and evolve backend services for a new mission-critical product, from MVP to broader adoption
• Implement reliable transactional workflows with clear state handling, safe retries, and consistent data persistence
• Integrate with external partners and systems, making integrations production-grade with proper edge case handling, timeouts, and partial failure management
• Ensure operational readiness through monitoring, alerting, debugging, incident participation, and performance improvements
• Contribute to engineering standards including code quality, tests, documentation, and continuous delivery practices

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong backend fundamentals: API design, concurrency, databases, and distributed systems basics
• Solid experience shipping and maintaining production services
• Experience integrating external systems and APIs, building robust adapters, and handling edge cases at scale
• Reliability mindset with focus on observability, failure-mode thinking, and pragmatic testing
