Freelance Proofreader

GSW (powered by Syneos Health) is a full-service healthcare communications agency. The Freelance Proofreader supports Senior Editors by ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance across multiple deliverables and channels. The role focuses on meticulous final-stage review of regulated content to reduce risk and maintain approved integrity.

• Proofread materials such as PowerPoint decks, websites, newsletters, brochures, and print ads.
• Ensure correct grammar, spelling, usage, and adherence to AMA, agency, and client style guides.
• Maintain brand-specific style consistency across projects.
• Verify references are listed and ordered correctly.
• Perform detailed side-by-side comparisons for print and digital materials.
• Confirm production files, printer proofs, and staging sites match approved layouts exactly.
• Review copy, layout, images, references, and functionality with strong attention to detail.
• Work in digital staging environments and CMS platforms while applying basic web QA concepts.
• Use Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and markup tools to review and annotate.
• Follow regulated workflows and maintain approved content integrity.
• Adapt to new tools, platforms, and technologies as needed.
• Document and communicate discrepancies clearly and efficiently.

• 1–2 years of editing or proofreading experience across multiple formats (digital, print, marketing, or editorial).
• Proficiency with editing tools (e.g., Microsoft Word Track Changes, Adobe PDF markup).
• Strong command of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style guidelines.
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of AMA style preferred.
• Methodical, process-oriented approach; strong reliability and accountability under tight deadlines.
• Comfort working on regulated content where precision and compliance are critical.

• Freelance/temporary/contract role.
• Must be flexible and available for off-business hours work, including evenings, nights, and/or weekends.
• Anticipated hourly rate: $35/hour (may vary by qualifications and other factors).
