Main Gallery Young Artist

Main Gallery is a paid 6-week summer arts program run by the City of Racine Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services to provide meaningful employment and hands-on arts experience for youth. The Young Artist role is for ages 14–17 (or 18 if not turning 19 during the program) to develop artistic skills through workshops, projects, and field trips, culminating in a final event.

• Participate in hands-on art projects and workshops across multiple art forms.
• Engage in discussions, critiques, and creative exercises to improve skills and ideas.
• Attend and actively participate in scheduled field trips to creative and cultural spaces.
• Collaborate with fellow artists on group projects and shared creative outcomes.
• Learn new techniques and expand artistic perspectives under guidance of professional artists.
• Maintain professionalism, respect, enthusiasm, and reliable attendance throughout the program.

• Age 14–17; may be 18 as long as the participant does not turn 19 during the program.
• Resident of Racine County (preference for City of Racine residents).
• Ability to commit to the full 6-week program with a maximum of two absences.
• Willingness and ability to attend scheduled field trips (including possible travel in PRCS vans).
• Passion for art/creativity/self-expression (e.g., painting, drawing, photography, writing/poetry).
• Open to constructive feedback and able to collaborate with peers.
• Reliable and responsible in meeting program expectations and maintaining consistent attendance.
• Application must include: typed letter of recommendation; typed 175-word essay (handwritten not accepted); completed parent/guardian income verification form (for statistical purposes; not used to determine acceptance).

• Program dates: June 22, 2026 through July 31, 2026 (approximately 6 weeks).
• Schedule: Monday–Thursday, with availability for possible weekend hours.
• Hours: approximately 18–20 hours per week.
• Paid program.
• Field trips included; possible travel in PRCS vans.
• Required attendance at the Culminating Event on July 31, 2026 (details provided later).
• Attendance constraint: time conflicts causing absence of more than two working days during the program window may disqualify acceptance.
• Working conditions may include outdoor weather exposure (heat, cold, rain) and exposure to open water with variable conditions.
• Physical demands may include sustained activity (walking/running on uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, standing/walking for long periods, lifting/carrying moderate to heavy items).
