The Finishing Craftsperson prepares and applies finishes to ensure each furniture piece meets standards for durability, appearance, and consistency. The role supports a quality-driven workshop by delivering refined surfaces that reflect the Thos. Moser standard.

What you'll do

  • Prepare furniture for finishing through careful sanding and surface preparation.
  • Apply finishes (oils, lacquers, varnishes, polyurethanes) using spray equipment and other techniques.
  • Mix stains, toners, and other finishing materials to achieve consistent color and appearance across production runs.
  • Inspect surfaces and finished pieces to ensure they meet craftsmanship and appearance standards.
  • Perform touch-ups and finish repairs on completed furniture as needed.
  • Repair minor defects (scratches, dents, surface imperfections) prior to final finishing.
  • Maintain spray equipment and finishing tools for safe, reliable operation.
  • Follow safety procedures related to finishing materials and equipment.
  • Keep a clean and organized workspace consistent with shop standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience with wood finishing, spray equipment, or furniture manufacturing (preferred).

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented production environment.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Craft development: New hires may begin as Finishing Trainees with hands-on training in surface preparation, finishing techniques, color matching, and spray application for approximately 3–6 months, with promotion upon successful completion.

Conditions

  • Full-time role.

  • Training period typically lasts 3 to 6 months with a wage increase upon promotion to Finishing Craftsperson.
