The Director of Safety leads the company’s safety and environmental programs to strengthen a proactive, zero-incident culture and ensure a healthy, compliant work environment.

What you'll do

  • Lead the development and implementation of a Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) program to support a proactive, zero-incident safety culture.

  • Serve as Safety Officer and manage the Corporate Safety Program for risk management, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

  • Design and implement safety programs, processes, and improvement initiatives to increase hazard awareness, accountability, and incident prevention.

  • Conduct and oversee risk assessments (job hazard analyses, process risk evaluations, facility reviews) to identify and mitigate hazards.

  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis; ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.

  • Develop and use safety analytics, KPIs, and trend analysis to monitor performance and drive data-informed risk reduction.

  • Direct ergonomic assessments and workplace design improvements to reduce musculoskeletal injuries and improve safety and efficiency.

  • Oversee and deliver safety training for employees, supervisors, contractors, and leadership.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, FDA, cGMP, environmental, and other applicable regulations, including required reporting and documentation.

  • Lead internal safety audits and inspections and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.

  • Oversee workers’ compensation programs, injury management, and incident reporting in coordination with leadership and HR.

  • Lead emergency preparedness and response programs, including drills and readiness of response teams and systems.

  • Build and develop a high-performing safety team through coaching, performance management, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience leading and developing EHS teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • CSP, CIH, or related professional certification preferred.

  • 10+ years of safety and environmental experience in a manufacturing facility (or equivalent) preferred.

  • Experience in cGMP Nutraceutical, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, or Food manufacturing preferred.

  • Experience building Behavior-Based Safety programs and proactive safety culture development.

  • Expertise in risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigation/root cause analysis.

  • Experience implementing ergonomic programs and workplace design improvements.

  • Capability in safety analytics, trend analysis, and performance metrics/KPI development.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to manage multifaceted projects alongside day-to-day work.

  • Strong computer/software proficiency to accomplish role responsibilities.

  • Ability to solve practical problems in environments with limited standardization.
