Summary
The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) is hiring Child Welfare Services Case Manager 1 roles to support vulnerable children and families. The role focuses on investigating screened-in child maltreatment reports and providing comprehensive case management to ensure safety, permanency, and well-being.
What you'll do
- Initiate timely face-to-face responses to screened-in reports of alleged child maltreatment and conduct safety-focused assessments.
- Develop and implement immediate safety plans to address identified safety concerns.
- Conduct diligent search efforts to locate children/families when unable to make contact.
- Implement Solution Based Casework (SBC).
- Partner with children and parents to develop and use the Family Functioning Agreement, Action Plan, and Family Plan to achieve outcomes.
- Create genograms to identify and leverage family support networks.
- Collaborate with community partners to build systems of support for children and families.
- Maintain appropriate frequency and quality of visits to ensure safety, permanency, and well-being.
- Identify and help address children’s, parents’, and foster parents’ physical, educational, and behavioral/mental health needs.
- Establish permanency goals and work toward timely permanency consistent with the Adoptions and Safe Families Act.
- Support placement stability and ensure placements are in the best interests of the child and aligned with permanency goals.
- Work to place siblings together in foster care unless separation is necessary to meet a child’s needs.
- Maintain children’s connections to neighborhood, community, faith, extended family, tribe, school, and friends.
- Promote and support positive relationships between children in care and biological parents/caretakers beyond visitation when appropriate.
- Document case management activities within policy time frames.
- Use a privately owned vehicle for work-related travel and duties, including transportation of children.
- Serve on after-hours on-call duty as assigned.
- Participate in ongoing learning and professional development.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, a valid state-issued driver’s license, and an acceptable driving history record.
Ability to pass standard agency testing protocol for the position.
May be subject to pre-employment drug screening, education verification, reference checks, motor vehicle records check, and criminal background check.
Conditions
Location: Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia (employees may be called into the office as needed even if teleworking temporarily).
Flexible work schedule; telework opportunities may be available depending on position.
Shift differential supplemental pay offered for 2nd, 3rd, and weekend shifts.
