Summary
Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), Utah’s largest open-access college, is hiring pooled Adjunct Faculty in the Film Department to teach lower-division courses in Film Production and/or Film Studies. The role supports course delivery, curriculum work, and student assessment in in-person and/or online formats to create meaningful learning experiences for a diverse community college population.
What you'll do
Teach lower-division film courses in Film Production (e.g., beginning/intermediate production) and/or Film Studies (e.g., introduction to film; film & culture) in in-person and/or online formats.
Deliver instruction, lectures, and discussions; support curriculum development and content delivery.
Film Production: instruct students on Blackmagic and Sony cameras, lighting techniques, grip equipment, and audio recording; teach post-production using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition.
Film Studies: teach film theory, analysis, history, and criticism; explore cultural representations in contemporary cinema using critical/theoretical approaches (e.g., race/ethnicity, gender identity, sexual identity, class, geography, ability/disability, generational issues).
Evaluate student projects, writing, and analytical assignments; provide timely, constructive feedback.
Maintain accurate attendance and grade records.
Foster a safe, respectful, collaborative classroom environment and maintain professional boundaries with students.
Respond to student inquiries within 1–2 days.
Participate in department meetings and trainings as needed.
Requirements
Work authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Film Production (minimum): Bachelor’s degree in Film Production, Film, or closely related field; demonstrated experience in commercial or narrative film production.
Film Studies (minimum): Master’s degree in Film Studies, Film, or closely related field.
Skills (Production): Proficiency in digital filmmaking from pre-production through post; working knowledge of professional camera systems, lighting setups, and audio recording; familiarity with industry-standard editing and sound software.
Skills (Studies): Graduate-level knowledge of film history/theory/criticism; strong writing and analytical skills; ability to lead engaging discussions and foster critical thinking; familiarity with diverse cinematic traditions and global cinema.
Communication/Inclusion: Ability to communicate effectively and work with diverse groups, including students and colleagues from varied academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
Preferred: One year of college-level teaching experience; experience with student-centered and inclusive teaching practices; for Film Studies, experience in film criticism/scholarship/cultural analysis; professional film production experience a plus.
Other: Successful completion of a criminal background check; official transcripts required within 30 days of hire for those offered employment.
Conditions
Pay: Paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.
Employment type: Adjunct; semester-by-semester with no guarantee of continued employment; contract-to-contract; employment may be terminated at will.
Location requirement: Must maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah; new employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of start date.
Schedule/format: In-person and/or online teaching depending on course needs; on-site campus presence expected unless approved for online-only courses.
