Art Director

The Atlantic is hiring an Art Director to join its newsroom and create original illustrations for daily coverage and digital features. The role will also commission and art direct assignments to support fast-paced editorial storytelling across digital platforms.

• Create original illustrations for The Atlantic’s daily coverage and digital features.

• Commission and art direct illustration assignments.

• Collaborate with newsroom partners while also working independently to deliver work on deadline.

• Ensure all visuals meet The Atlantic’s design, production, and editorial standards.

• Contribute occasional work to special projects and the magazine as needed.

• Help extend art department coverage during evenings and West Coast hours, including occasional late nights, weekends, and early mornings.

• 5+ years of experience in editorial design, illustration, digital media, or related fields.

• Mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud; motion graphics and video editing experience preferred.

• Familiarity with Figma preferred.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.

• Clear, concise communication skills.

• Experience in journalism or a news-related environment strongly preferred.

• Deep understanding of illustration and design for digital platforms; comfort in a fast-paced news environment.

• Remote role; open to remote applicants.

• Availability to work West Coast hours; may include late nights, weekends, and early mornings.

• Guild position.
