Summary

Equitas Academy Charter Schools is building an applicant pool for anticipated future openings for an Assistant Principal - Instruction. The role serves on the school leadership team and drives instructional quality by coaching educators, leading professional development, and strengthening inclusive and language acquisition practices to ensure equitable outcomes for diverse learners.

What you'll do

  • Coach teachers aligned to the Equitas coaching model, including regular classroom observations and actionable feedback tied to goals and rubrics.
  • Co-design individualized professional learning plans, with emphasis on developing and retaining novice teachers.
  • Provide model lessons (in-person and via video) demonstrating Equitas Signature Strategies and effective literacy practices.
  • Lead professional learning communities and deliver professional development aligned to curriculum/instructional initiatives and informed by assessment data.
  • Support high-quality, standards-aligned literacy instruction across content areas (ELA, social science, science, mathematics).
  • Support inclusive practices (including UDL) and differentiated instruction for Scholars with Disabilities and Emergent Bilingual Scholars.
  • Collaborate with special education teams and general education teachers to ensure students with disabilities access the curriculum.
  • Integrate language development strategies across content areas and ensure alignment with state and federal guidelines for English learners.
  • Support Adelante Instructors with student selection, intervention alignment to the school day, and progress monitoring impact.
  • Serve as a member of the school leadership team, supervise staff as assigned, meet regularly with the Principal regarding direct reports, and act as Principal’s designee when delegated.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 3+ years of teaching experience (5+ preferred) with a demonstrated record of exceptional academic outcomes.
  • Coaching/Leadership: Background in coaching or mentoring teachers and facilitating professional development; experience in school leadership roles (e.g., Grade Level Lead or Instructional Coach).
  • Credentials: Clear California teaching credential or out-of-state equivalent (highly preferred).
  • Core skills: Collaborative stakeholder management; strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and adaptive leadership skills; ability to analyze data to inform instruction and improve outcomes.
  • Instructional expertise: Inclusive practices, language acquisition programs, literacy instruction, and content-area pedagogy.
  • Values/competencies: Alignment with Equitas mission/values; commitment to DEIA and anti-racism; ability to manage shifting priorities while maintaining wellbeing and accountability.
