AI Engineer Middle+ / Senior [Financial Assistant]

Plata is building an intelligent Financial Assistant team that helps users manage finances and interact with financial products using AI systems. We're looking for a Middle+/Senior AI Engineer to design and maintain advanced LLM-powered solutions in a regulated, customer-facing environment where accuracy and trust are critical.

• Work with agentic architectures including tool use, multi-step reasoning, orchestration, and failure recovery
• Design and maintain evaluation infrastructure with offline test suites, golden datasets, and regression harnesses
• Develop advanced prompts and set up RAG-oriented data sources for efficient retrieval and accuracy validation
• Implement safety systems including hallucination detection, refusal strategies, and factual grounding
• Run online and offline experiments (canary, A/B testing) to validate improvements to user outcomes
• Own observability and monitoring: trace LLM calls, detect quality drift, track latency and cost per session in production
• Collaborate with backend engineers and product teams to ship reliable improvements and maintain production health

• Strong classical ML fundamentals with deep understanding of how models work internally
• Strong evaluation mindset and experience designing measurement systems before implementation
• Hands-on experience with search and retrieval systems (dense/sparse/hybrid, reranking, query understanding)
• Practical experience with agentic architectures, tool use, orchestration, and failure recovery
• Safety-first thinking with expertise in guardrails, content policies, and graceful degradation
• Production ML ownership experience including observability, latency budgets, cost tracking, and regression detection
• Expert-level Python proficiency with language and framework-agnostic mindset
• Familiarity with open-source RAG tools and evaluation frameworks
• Excellent communication skills for explaining complex concepts to diverse stakeholders
• B1 or higher English level for international team communication

Bonus Skills:

• Previous experience delivering business-critical ML/AI applications for customer-facing products
• Fine-tuning or distillation of LLMs for production use cases
• Experience deploying open-source models (Llama, Mistral) in private/on-premise environments
• Experience in fintech, banking, or regulated domains
