Summary

Austin PBS (KLRU-TV) is hiring a Videographer & Editor focused on long-form, story-driven editing for broadcast and digital platforms. The role edits full episodes and extended segments while also shooting and producing content to support station productions and promotions. You will collaborate closely with producers, reporters, and the production leadership team to deliver high-quality public media programming.

What you'll do

  • Edit long-form broadcast and digital programs (full episodes, extended interviews, multi-segment shows) from rough cut through final delivery.
  • Collaborate with reporters and producers on cinematographic look and feel, pacing, tone, and overall visual style for interviews and field/studio segments.
  • Provide post-production support including ingesting and logging footage, syncing video/audio, and executing rough and final cuts.
  • Support limited pre-production as needed, including location logistics, scheduling equipment and personnel, and coordinating with interviewees on setup.
  • Archive projects and maintain an organized media workflow.
  • Create and format content for social media platforms.
  • Shoot as videographer using broadcast and/or cinema-style cameras with various lenses.
  • Prepare pre-production materials (shot lists, rundowns, planning documents) to align crew and editorial goals.
  • Instruct and collaborate with crew in studio or field to achieve desired production outcomes.
  • Ensure content meets standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Capture strong compositions aligned to the visual style guide and record excellent audio.
  • Work on studio crews in various roles (e.g., Videotape/DIT, Floor Manager, Camera, Teleprompter) as needed.
  • Train and mentor production staff or interns as needed.
  • Partner with Engineers to troubleshoot technical issues when required.
  • Attend and participate in station, department, and show production meetings.
  • Perform other production duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience: 3+ years in a related field.
  • Software: Adobe Creative Suite experience (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop); Windows environment preferred.
  • Production skills: Knowledge of television production concepts and professional post-production procedures in a non-linear environment.
  • Preferred: Lighting experience.
  • Preferred education: Certificate or degree in TV production or related field.
  • Plus: Canon XF and Canon C series camera experience.
  • Tools: Proficient in Google Workspace.
  • Soft skills: Creative decision-making; strong written/verbal communication; ability to collaborate in a high-pressure, creative environment.
  • Mission fit: Understanding of public media mission and values.
  • Physical/working conditions: Ability to work with moderate-to-loud noise; lift/carry up to 30 lbs; regularly operate video and computer equipment; close-range detail observation; frequent interaction and information exchange.
  • Availability: Ability to work non-standard hours (nights/weekends) and overtime as necessary.
  • Application: Must submit a reel of recent work.

  • Full-time, hourly position.
