HR Generalist

Summary

Sage is a mission-driven, software-enabled company improving care and quality of life for older adults in senior living facilities. The HR Generalist will be Sage’s first dedicated HR generalist, owning day-to-day people operations and supporting a smooth, compliant, and supportive employee experience. This role partners closely with the Head of People and will lead day-to-day People operations during an extended parental leave coverage period.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the primary HR point of contact for employees and managers, providing practical guidance on people matters and employee issues.
  • Own the employee lifecycle end-to-end, including onboarding, offboarding, new hire orientation, and I-9 compliance.
  • Manage daily HR operations including HRIS administration, data integrity, benefits coordination, leave management, and compliance tracking.
  • Support performance management processes by coordinating review cycles, enabling manager growth conversations, and ensuring consistent documentation.
  • Maintain and improve HR policies and processes by identifying gaps and recommending scalable, culture-aligned solutions.
  • Partner with the Head of People on strategic people initiatives such as compensation reviews, engagement programs, leveling, and career development.
  • Cover for the Head of People during an extended leave by acting as the People team lead and escalation point, maintaining continuity across workstreams and keeping leadership informed.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition, IT, Finance, and Leadership to ensure a cohesive employee experience.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience with ownership of employee relations, onboarding, compliance, HRIS administration, and performance support.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR compliance with sound judgment and appropriate escalation.
  • Hands-on HR systems experience (e.g., Justworks, Lattice, Greenhouse, or similar) including data integrity, reporting, and workflows.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with discretion and emotional intelligence to build trust across all levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to translate complex HR topics into clear guidance.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in ambiguous or time-sensitive situations.
  • Preferred:

    • Experience in a high-growth or startup environment building or scaling HR programs.
    • Comfort supporting executive teams/founders and handling sensitive information with discretion.

Conditions

  • Location: Headquarters in Union Square; in-office culture with up to 2 remote days per week.

  • Compensation: Competitive base compensation plus stock options; expected annual salary range $130,000–$165,000 USD (converted to an approximate monthly midpoint in the salary field).
