Chief Operating Officer
Summary
A leading specialty mining, sourcing, and mineral processing company is seeking a strategic and hands-on Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join the Executive Leadership Team. The COO will drive execution of the company’s strategic vision and be accountable for day-to-day safety, financial, and operational performance while enabling continuous improvement and growth. This role will help sustain operational excellence through organic expansion and impactful M&A activity.
What you'll do
- Partner with the executive team and location management to define and implement operational processes, procedures, and initiatives that drive growth and continuous improvement.
- Work with the executive team to set annual and quarterly company performance goals.
- Oversee all aspects of operations, including manufacturing, supply chain, facilities management, and acquisition integration.
- Lead disciplined sales, inventory, and operations planning to enhance cross-functional alignment and business outcomes.
- Cultivate and develop rising talent; build, inspire, and develop high-performing teams.
- Drive operational improvement through oversight, reporting, and execution of initiatives that add capabilities, infrastructure, and/or new practices.
- Identify best practices and improve internal systems aligned with future needs and budget constraints.
- Report monthly, quarterly, and annually on P&L variances tied to operating activities and on key operational KPIs.
- Work closely with the CEO and Controller on operational matters.
- Participate in annual budget preparation; manage capital planning and expenditures.
- Support integration of acquired/merged companies.
- Manage selection, training, development, appraisal, and work assignments for leaders and staff.
- Ensure operating objectives and performance standards are understood and owned across management and employees.
- Conduct employee reviews and implement corrective action plans as needed.
- Recruit, attract, retain, motivate, and lead a high-performance management team.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
10+ years of progressive operations experience with a demonstrated track record of success in aggregate mining or a related sector.
5+ years of management experience.
Proven experience developing and executing strategic plans.
Strong analytical skills and judgment, including ability to gather information, build models, evaluate factors, and make data-driven decisions.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; collaborative and willing to ask for and offer help.
Experience leading manufacturing, sales, and general business operations.
Ability to resolve difficult challenges and issues; strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Budget-focused and financially astute.
Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities; ability to adapt to diverse personalities.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Conditions
Travel required up to 40%.
