Staff Accountant (Remote)
Summary
Brightline is a pediatric, teen, and parental mental health care provider offering virtual and in-person outpatient services. The Staff Accountant (Remote) role supports financial integrity by owning the full cycle of vendor invoices and payroll while contributing to reconciliations, month-end close, and audits. The position partners cross-functionally to resolve discrepancies and improve accounting and payroll workflows.
What you'll do
- Process vendor invoices accurately and ensure required approvals are obtained.
- Identify, recommend, and help implement improvements to accounts payable workflows to increase speed and reduce errors.
- Coordinate with approvers to remove bottlenecks and support timely vendor payments.
- Manage payroll for all employee types (full-time, part-time, hourly, salaried).
- Serve as a payroll subject matter expert and respond to payroll questions from employees and management.
- Investigate and resolve moderately complex payroll variances and discrepancies using independent judgment.
- Perform general ledger reconciliations and routine accounting activities.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies to maintain accurate financial data.
- Participate in month-end close and support projects including financial and workers’ compensation audits.
- Partner with People Operations and external vendors to streamline cross-functional personnel-related matters.
- Work with employees to collect missing receipts and resolve expense discrepancies to support accountability.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of accounting and payroll experience with the ability to manage routine workload with minimal daily instruction.
- Ability to modify existing methods and processes to solve problems and improve workflows.
- Strong judgment and ability to independently handle moderately scoped issues.
- Knowledge of accounting and payroll systems/tools and proficiency in Excel.
- Thorough understanding of employee confidentiality.
- Collaborative communication skills and ability to build relationships across teams to resolve shared challenges.
- Strong time management and consistent ability to meet deadlines with minimal oversight.
