LIEUTENANT

The GEO Group, Inc. is seeking a Lieutenant to supervise security/control activities and staff within an assigned area of a detention/correctional facility. The role ensures effective detainee supervision and safety while supporting facility coordination, compliance, and required recordkeeping.

• Assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and regulations related to custody, security, and/or treatment of detainees.
• Respond to major unusual occurrences and coordinate prompt assistance for detainees experiencing injury, illness, or emotional trauma.
• Promote an environment supportive of positive behavior and development for detainees and staff.
• Direct and supervise employees, including hiring/selection, performance evaluation, training and development, promotion decisions, and disciplinary actions (up to termination).
• Make staff assignments, review post orders, and ensure emergency procedures are established and staff are trained to implement them.
• Review disciplinary matters involving staff and detainees.
• Conduct frequent facility inspections to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and assess staff effectiveness.
• Provide guidance on situational problems and make referrals for complex issues.
• Prepare required records and reports and maintain daily logs as assigned.
• Support achievement of facility goals/objectives and ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for security operations.
• Provide training and inspect work performed by detainee staff; provide supervision/security in other areas as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services, or related field preferred.

• Experience: 3 years in a correctional setting, including 1 year in a role requiring supervisory capabilities.

• Attributes: Mature, flexible, intellectually alert; able to command respect and confidence of detainees and staff; high tolerance to mental stress.
