Summary

Scholastic is seeking a Junior Designer to join the Trade Art Department to support day-to-day design operations for book titles. The role partners with editorial, production, marketing, sales, and freelancers to move projects from design through proofing and release.

What you'll do

  • Manage design and production for a limited number of titles per year in collaboration with art department leadership
  • Route passes to Editorial and Production and coordinate feedback loops
  • Scan art and relay notes to illustrators and designers
  • Help identify and source illustrators who fit manuscripts and market needs
  • Pre-flight releases and release final files
  • Coordinate with freelance designers
  • Support reprint edits and assist with building project schedules as needed
  • Support coding invoices as needed
  • Build presentations for Launch, Sales Conference, Catalog, and Art Management
  • Manage outside purchases end-to-end
  • Manage the proof process for select titles
  • Respond to timely requests from Marketing and Sales
  • Attend bi-weekly production status meetings and weekly staff meetings

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree

Conditions

  • Location: New York City (SoHo office)

  • Schedule: Full-time; encouraged minimum of 2 days per week in-office (some teams may require more)
