Student Grader (Fall 2025) - College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) at the University of Alaska is hiring Student Graders to support high-enrollment fisheries and ocean sciences courses. The role partners directly with faculty to grade assignments and manage online discussion boards to help courses run smoothly.

• Assist instructors with assignment grading using instructor-provided rubrics
• Manage and moderate course discussion boards promptly, thoughtfully, and professionally
• Communicate with faculty and students effectively in writing and verbally as needed
• Use online collaboration tools to support course operations
• Complete required trainings (including FERPA and UA Tier 1 training) within required timelines
• Log work hours each pay period in UA Online

• Current student in good standing at the University of Alaska
• Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits during the semester of employment
• Graduate applicants: solid background in the subject of the class being graded
• Undergraduate applicants: earned an A (or a B with instructor approval) in the course being graded or a relevant higher-level course
• Ability to use online collaboration tools
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to grade accurately and in a timely manner
• Complete UA Tier 1 Required Training within 2 weeks of hire date and complete FERPA training before first day of grading (training time is compensated)
• Provide application materials: resume, unofficial transcripts, and names/contact info for three professional references; graduate applicants also provide a reference from graduate advisor
• Successful completion of a background check as a condition of employment

• Part-time student position, up to 20 hours per week
• Primary location: UAF Troth Yeddha' campus; may consider students at other UA campuses if they have relevant experience
• Pay depends on academic experience and follows the student union contract: $18.50/hour (undergraduate), $24.50/hour (Master), $29/hour (PhD)
