Summary

Los Angeles Times is hiring a Recruitment & Learning Coordinator (Talent Operations & Learning Coordinator) to support a seamless and compliant candidate-to-employee experience. The role coordinates recruiting operations, onboarding administration, and learning/training logistics, tracking, and reporting in partnership with Recruiting/Talent Operations and Learning & Development leadership.

What you'll do

  • Maintain accurate applicant and new-hire status records after offer acceptance, including background checks and pre-employment requirements.
  • Prepare, distribute, and track offer letters via HRIS and email, ensuring approvals and timely delivery.
  • Communicate onboarding and post-offer steps to new hires and follow up on outstanding actions.
  • Launch and manage background checks with third-party vendors; track results, resolve delays, and escalate discrepancies to HR partners.
  • Initiate new hires in the HRIS and coordinate internal approvals and completion.
  • Keep candidate data current in ATS and background check platforms.
  • Own interview scheduling, logistics, and candidate communications to ensure a positive experience.
  • Support resume sourcing and candidate screening as needed.
  • Coordinate logistics for live and virtual training sessions.
  • Track mandatory training completion and due dates; follow escalation policy with employees and managers.
  • Monitor compliance training and conduct compliance training audits.
  • Run reports for new hires, onboarding progress, training completion, and learning/compliance metrics; follow up on outliers per escalation policy.
  • Support creation of training materials, including e-learning content, course documentation, and voiceover/audio recordings.
  • Send and monitor two-week new-hire surveys; manage third-party survey tools.
  • Analyze survey results and share trends/insights with HR leadership to drive continuous improvement.
  • Process vendor invoices: secure approvals, submit for payment, track status, and escalate discrepancies.
  • Document, review, and update internal processes; support continuous improvement of recruiting, onboarding, and training workflows.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience) plus 1+ years of hands-on HR experience (HR operations, recruiting coordination, onboarding, learning administration, or related). OR 3+ years of hands-on HR experience in these areas.

  • Systems: Experience with HRIS, applicant tracking systems (ATS), background check platforms, and learning management systems (LMS).

  • Skills: High attention to detail and accuracy; strong written and verbal communication; ability to handle sensitive/confidential information; ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment; strong organization and follow-through; professional stakeholder communication; sound judgment; adaptability to changing priorities.

  • Preferred: Media/publishing/journalism or mission-driven environment experience; e-learning content and training material support; familiarity with WellSaid, Captivate Classic, Google Slides, or similar tools; compliance training/audit support; survey data analysis and translating insights into actions; partnering with Learning teams on course documentation, basic e-learning updates, and voiceover/audio support.

Conditions

  • Compensation: $28.00 to $30.77 per hour (company pay scale at time of posting); actual compensation based on skills, experience, and other factors.
