Summary
JTS is hiring a Sheet Metal Fabricator in Abilene to prepare, fabricate, and cut steel and stainless sheet metal components for assembly. The role operates presses and related equipment to produce parts for power packaging units while maintaining safety, quality, and production standards.
What you'll do
Lay out and examine metal stock/work pieces to confirm specifications, dimensions, and tolerances are met.
Set up and operate fabrication equipment and tooling (e.g., press brake, shear) for stainless and steel sheet metal products.
Install, align, and secure punches, dies, and fixtures in the brake press using hand tools, dial calipers, and inspection gauges.
Study shop drawings, blueprints, work orders, and production schedules to determine materials, measurements, and tolerances.
Assemble lifts; position, load, and remove work pieces from machinery.
Clean and lubricate machines and tools as part of routine upkeep.
Move equipment and materials with forklift assistance as needed.
Cross-train in welding and other metalworking techniques when appropriate.
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
1–2 years of experience in a manufacturing or construction environment (preferred).
2+ years of experience operating press brake/shear equipment (preferred).
Forklift driving/operation experience (desired).
Experience using a roll table (a plus).
Ability to read and understand blueprints and shop drawings.
Strong attention to detail and quality; ability to ensure correct measurements on each piece.
Math skills including reading/applying a decimal chart and calculating circumference and bend radius.
Knowledge of proper use, cleaning, and lubrication of machines and tools.
Ability to work safely and efficiently, complete tasks on time, and adhere to safety procedures.
Reliability, responsibility, and ability to manage time independently.
Ability to lift and move heavy sheets of metal.
Conditions
Location: Abilene (on-site).
Daily work operating fabrication machinery and handling materials, including forklift-assisted movement.
