People and Culture Generalist

Summary

Fuku is a hospitality-driven restaurant brand that began in NYC and has grown beyond its original concept. The People & Culture Generalist will support and help scale people-first operations across restaurant units and HQ, partnering closely with the VP, People. The role focuses on smooth day-to-day execution across payroll, HRIS, compliance, and employee experience.

What you'll do

  • Own end-to-end payroll processing with accuracy and timeliness; act as primary contact for payroll questions.

  • Administer benefits programs, including 401(k) coordination and audit support; partner with external vendors for smooth execution and compliance.

  • Own and optimize the HRIS (Rippling), ensuring data integrity, system reliability, and audit-ready employee records.

  • Execute employee lifecycle workflows (onboarding, offboarding, status changes, check-ins) and implement system/process improvements.

  • Support compliance and risk management by tracking documentation, supporting audits, maintaining labor law postings, and updating policies and required trainings.

  • Execute and track 30/60/90-day check-ins and performance cycles through the HRIS; support feedback, documentation, and communications.

  • Partner with the VP, People on employee relations matters, including triage, documentation, and investigation follow-up.

  • Support restaurant managers and HQ leaders as a trusted resource; contribute ideas to improve engagement, recognition, communication, and employee experience.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in HR or People Operations; hospitality, restaurant, fast-paced, or multi-unit environment preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms (Rippling preferred), payroll processing, and maintaining employment documentation.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ownership mindset with a commitment to accuracy.

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment regulations and compliance practices.

  • Clear, confident communication skills; ability to explain processes simply and handle issues calmly and professionally.

  • Bonus: benefits administration experience and interest in helping inform benefits philosophy.

Conditions

  • Location: Remote role open to candidates anywhere in the United States.

  • Time zones: Preference for Central (CDT) or Eastern (EST) time zones; strong preference for Florida, Georgia, or neighboring Southeastern states.

  • Travel: Occasional travel to restaurant locations or in-person support may be required.

  • Compensation: $90,000/year base salary plus 15% bonus potential.
