What you'll do
- Select components based on required technical parameters and mission constraints
- Build firmware from source for specific camera chipsets and disable unused modules to reduce load and improve boot time
- Configure H.264/H.265 video encoder parameters for optimal image quality, bitrate, and minimal latency
- Configure, modify, and maintain flight controller firmware (Betaflight, ArduPilot) per hardware and mission requirements
- Write low-level MCU code and manage peripheral devices (sensors, ESCs, radio receivers)
- Develop bidirectional communication between devices and flight controller using UART and SPI for telemetry and OSD data overlay
- Integrate and optimize analog and digital video transmission systems for minimum latency
- Build and test prototypes under high vibration and extreme temperature conditions
- Monitor resource consumption and optimize code to prevent overheating or in-flight freezes
- Plan and conduct flight tests for data collection and final tuning
- Maintain technical documentation, setup guides, and maintenance instructions
Requirements
- Experience with embedded systems and firmware development
- Proficiency in C/C++ programming
- Knowledge of flight controller platforms (Betaflight, ArduPilot)
- Understanding of video encoding standards and real-time video transmission
- Experience with low-level MCU programming and peripheral management
- Familiarity with communication protocols (UART, SPI)
- Strong debugging and testing capabilities
- Experience with hardware integration and electrical diagnostics
