Summary
The Los Angeles Lakers are hiring an Associate Counsel to support the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel across legal matters for the Lakers and related entities. The role focuses on commercial contracting, promotions and event-related legal support, compliance, and risk management to enable business operations.
What you'll do
- Draft and review rules for contests, sweepstakes, raffles, and other consumer promotions, including related promotional materials.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate commercial agreements (e.g., service, facility use, event, production, sponsorship, license, technology agreements, and NDAs).
- Prepare and review liability waivers and media releases for events and activities.
- Support contracting for artist, photographer, and influencer engagements.
- Assist with privacy, data protection/security compliance and respond to data privacy requests.
- Collaborate with internal teams on legal strategies, process improvements, and compliance with NBA rules.
- Support senior in-house and outside counsel on litigation matters.
- Assist with trademark, copyright, and other intellectual property licensing, enforcement, and maintenance.
- Support insurance coverage analysis, policies, and risk management assessment/prevention.
- Assist with corporate governance matters.
- Conduct legal research and provide written and verbal legal advice.
- Develop and implement internal policies, processes, forms, and templates.
- Provide Legal Department operational support including contract management and matter tracking.
- Handle additional matters as directed by legal and executive leadership.
Requirements
Education/Certification
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school required.
- Licensed to practice law in California required.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant legal experience (law firm and/or in-house).
- Sports, entertainment, and/or live events experience strongly preferred.

Conditions
- Location: offices Monday through Friday with occasional off-site events as needed.
- Hours: regular office hours 9:00am–5:30pm (M–F); must be available evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed.

- Compensation: pay range stated as $140,000–$150,000 annually (final offer based on skills, experience, certifications, and internal equity).
