Senior Backend Software Engineer (Node.js & PHP)

Lokalise is an AI-powered translation and localization platform that helps businesses expand into new markets by automating workflows and integrating with 60+ tools. We're seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our Integrations domain, leading the design and development of our core integrations platform while elevating our engineering team and establishing best practices.

• Architect and Own: Lead the design, development, and long-term ownership of core integrations platform and services, balancing velocity with maintainability
• Think Holistically: Understand customer workflows and business impact, grounding technical decisions in clear business value
• Build the System: Champion practices that improve the development lifecycle, implement automated pathways to production, and use metrics like DORA to measure delivery performance
• Elevate the Team: Act as a force multiplier through code reviews, mentorship, and knowledge sharing to raise skill levels across the engineering team
• Lead in AI-Powered Development: Pioneer and evangelize AI development tools within the team and organization

• Deep Technical Craft: 7+ years building and running complex backend systems with solid experience in Node.js and PHP, comfortable owning systems across mixed stacks
• Integrations Domain Expertise: Proven track record in integrations space with understanding of webhooks, polling, message queues, event-driven architectures, API versioning, and multi-tenant platforms
• Systems Thinking: Strong understanding of API best practices, message queues (RabbitMQ, SNS/SQS), relational databases (PostgreSQL), and cloud services (AWS)
• High-Impact Judgment: Demonstrated history of sound technical decisions through research, prototyping, and clear written debate using design documents (RFCs, ADRs)
• Pragmatism: View languages and frameworks as tools, comfortable context-switching between different system parts and learning new technologies
• Quality Commitment: Belief that testing, observability, and operational excellence are core to engineering craft
• AI Mastery: Demonstrated proficiency with AI development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) and ability to coach others
• Leadership: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills with ability to articulate complex ideas and inspire higher standards

Schedule & Location: Full-time, fully remote position with flexible working hours. Must reside and have legal right to work in United Kingdom, Latvia, or Spain. No B2B or contractor basis.
