Senior Buyer

Summary
Nutrien is a leading provider of crop inputs and services with a purpose of Feeding the Future. The Senior Buyer role supports sourcing strategy excellence by leading strategic sourcing and contract execution for site services, engineered equipment, and capital projects while also covering day-to-day site procurement operations. The position reports to the Procurement Manager and focuses on strong supplier performance and compliant procurement execution on-site.
What you'll do
- Lead sourcing strategies for site services, engineering equipment, and capital projects.
- Develop, negotiate, and execute supplier contracts (including MSAs, service contracts, and project contracts).
- Run competitive sourcing events (RFP/RFQ) and conduct commercial negotiations with suppliers.
- Partner with engineering, operations, and maintenance leaders to structure agreements and manage supplier risk.
- Manage the contract lifecycle, including amendments, renewals, and performance obligations.
- Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers supporting site operations.
- Support supplier performance programs (reviews, service level monitoring, and continuous improvement).
- Hold suppliers accountable to contractual service levels and escalate issues to site leadership as needed.
- Represent Procurement with engineering, operations, maintenance, and contractors.
- Manage the ISNetworld database to ensure supplier compliance.
- Facilitate supplier onboarding and contract implementation.
- Provide oversight/support for source-to-pay activities for capital, operational, and maintenance needs.
- Process invoices according to procurement policies and procedures.
- Resolve supplier inquiries and coordinate with internal stakeholders to address procurement issues.
- Maintain regular alignment with the Site Procurement Manager on priorities and objectives.
Requirements
Experience/Education:
- Minimum 6+ years of relevant experience in strategic sourcing and supply chain management.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, management, or similar.
Commercial/Category Expertise:
- Proven experience leading commercial negotiations and executing supplier contracts (MSAs/project contracts) with significant spend levels.
- Ability to independently lead complex sourcing events and negotiations with minimal supervision.
- Experience with categories such as Electrical & Instrumentation, Engineered Equipment, Construction Services, Engineering Services, and Project Management.
- Broad knowledge of source-to-pay processes/tools, category strategy implementation, supplier contract execution, and supplier risk management.
Tools/Systems:
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Practical experience with enterprise asset management systems (SAP/Oracle).
- Experience with spend management and source-to-pay tools (e.g., Ariba, analysis/reporting tools, eProcurement systems).
Capabilities:
- Strong analytical skills; ability to use quantitative insights to make decisions and influence stakeholders.
- Ability to identify operational solutions with the lowest total cost of ownership.
- Ability to handle tough negotiations and apply continuous improvement methodologies.

Preferred Certifications (not required):
- Procurement: SCMP/CPSM.
- Inventory Management: CIPS.
- Lean / Six Sigma.
- Operational planning.
Conditions
