Health And Safety Manager

Summary

The Health & Safety Manager leads the safety strategy, programs, and regulatory compliance across U.S. and Puerto Rico retail and office locations, driving a proactive safety culture and enterprise risk management.

What you'll do

  • Lead and continuously improve the occupational health and safety management system across all retail and office locations in the United States and Puerto Rico.

  • Partner with senior leadership and report to the Head of People Controls to align safety objectives with HR governance and enterprise priorities.

  • Direct and validate enterprise-wide risk assessments and inspections (including third-party services) and integrate findings into strategic planning and operational controls.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety legislation; monitor and proactively respond to regulatory changes.

  • Maintain ISO 45001 certification and WHO Healthy Workplace certification, including audit preparation, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor preventive health and safety programs addressing identified risks and non-conformities.

  • Manage the health and safety training strategy, including content, delivery, tracking, and effectiveness across employee groups.

  • Oversee incident/accident investigations, ensuring consistency, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions; review and approve incident reports.

  • Monitor, analyze, and report health & safety performance metrics, trends, and KPIs to support data-driven decisions.

  • Oversee systems and tools for incident reporting, investigations, checklists, mandatory training, and compliance tracking.

  • Manage relationships with external vendors, consultants, and suppliers; oversee internal applications used for supplier compliance.

  • Issue and approve health and safety communications, guidance, and memos to ensure consistent policy and regulatory application.

  • Provide subject matter expertise to HR, Operations, and senior management; participate in Executive Health and Safety Committee meetings.

  • Collaborate on workplace violence matters, business continuity, and emergency situations; promote a strong safety and prevention culture.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in occupational health and safety, risk management, or a related field.

  • Retail industry or multi-location environment experience strongly preferred (supporting field leadership and store-level teams).

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Business, or a similar field (required).

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices, including ability to research and apply OSHA and state/local requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and maintaining H&S programs, policies, procedures, and risk assessments.

  • Experience supporting or maintaining ISO 45001 (or equivalent) management system strongly preferred.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Power BI or other data visualization tools preferred.

  • Experience analyzing incident trends, audits, corrective actions, and leading indicators to drive continuous improvement.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Self-directed, accountable, able to work independently while collaborating cross-functionally (Operations, HR, Security, Facilities, Legal/Compliance, external partners).

  • Willingness and ability to travel and be available as required to support business needs.
