Senior Software Engineer, Criminal Screenings

Checkr is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Criminal Screenings team, which delivers trusted background check and criminal screening reports. In this role, you'll develop new platform capabilities, mentor engineers, and ensure system reliability while balancing speed to market with long-term growth.

• Develop new platform capabilities and product offerings from design through release
• Balance speed to market and long-term growth through thoughtful system design
• Partner with Product to define initiatives and construct quarterly roadmaps
• Ensure system availability through on-call rotation, support ticket resolution, and preventative measures
• Provide mentorship to engineers on the team and across the organization
• Contribute to continuous improvement of the engineering organization through discussions, showcases, and leadership reviews

• 5+ years of backend software development experience with strong proficiency in Ruby (preferred), Golang, or JavaScript/TypeScript
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, or related field (preferred)
• Solid understanding of relational and non-relational databases, data structures, algorithms, and REST APIs
• Experience with domain modeling, object design, and system architecture
• Proven track record of writing clear, tested, and concise code
• Ability to provide accurate project estimates and inform decisions
• Experience writing and reviewing technical proposals with strong communication skills
• Strong ownership mentality across development lifecycle and incident response
• Collaborative mindset with desire to share knowledge
• Eagerness to learn and innovate in fast-paced environment

Schedule & Location: Hybrid work environment with 3 days per week in office. Hub locations include Denver, CO, San Francisco, CA, Nashville, TN, and Santiago, Chile.
