Hire Score LLC
President & COO
Summary
Hire Score LLC is recruiting a President & COO for a high-growth, founder-led construction materials and services platform backed for accelerated expansion. This onsite role at the Greater Sacramento HQ will run day-to-day operations, build the execution system, and integrate acquisitions to scale the business over the next five years.
What you'll do
Lead GMs, superintendents, dispatch, and project leaders across operating companies; establish a weekly operating cadence and accountability.
Drive fleet uptime and utilization through maintenance discipline, replacement planning, downtime reduction, and shop performance.
Optimize aggregates sourcing and distribution: manage supplier relationships and pricing, yard/stockpile inventory, loadout and ticketing accuracy, quality/material compliance, and coordination with dispatch and project teams.
Strengthen project execution (GC and subcontract): improve estimating handoff, job cost control, change-order management, scheduling, and closeout discipline.
Set and enforce non-negotiables around safety and compliance (DOT, Cal/OSHA, state DOT requirements) with strong documentation rigor.
Own the operating rhythm via KPI dashboards, variance reviews, corrective actions, and improved forecast accuracy.
Improve unit economics (cost per ton, cost per mile, on-time performance, labor productivity, and gross margin by job/customer).
Partner with finance on cash discipline: working capital management, receivables, claim/change-order timing, and capex prioritization.
Build and run an acquisition integration playbook covering people, systems, safety, equipment, customers, and culture without disrupting operations.
Identify operational bottlenecks to growth and execute plans to remove constraints across people, equipment, process, and systems.
Professionalize the leadership bench through succession planning, hiring, training, and performance management.
Requirements
Senior operator with experience running a P&L in construction materials, aggregates, heavy civil, and/or trucking (ideally in the Western U.S.).
Proven record delivering a meaningful step-change in scale (capacity expansion, new contract types, new markets, and/or acquisitions) as CEO/President or as a next-in-line operator owning execution.
Experience operating as both prime/GC and subcontractor with strong understanding of commercial and operational success factors for each.
Strong finance and operations capability; able to translate analysis into field execution.
Demonstrated improvement in safety performance, fleet/equipment uptime, productivity, and margins in equipment-intensive operations.
Credibility with field teams (superintendents, drivers, mechanics, plant teams) and effectiveness with customers, partners, and sophisticated owners.
Leadership attributes: high ownership and standards, calm under pressure, sound judgment, direct communication, disciplined system-building without excess bureaucracy, team development focus, bias to action with strong risk management.
Conditions
Onsite leadership role based at the Greater Sacramento HQ.
Relocation is encouraged for candidates not currently in the region.
Competitive cash compensation plus meaningful economic participation tied to post-start valuation growth.
High-trust partnership with the Founder characterized by fast decisions, low bureaucracy, and clear accountability.
