Human Resources Specialist

Summary

Rise Up for Autism (RUFA) is a mission-driven organization supporting ABA therapy clinic locations. The Human Resources Specialist (HR Generalist) will run core HR operations including payroll, employee relations, leave administration, and full-cycle recruitment while ensuring compliance with Illinois labor laws and healthcare/ABA requirements. This role supports frontline clinical teams and helps build scalable HR structure across growing clinics.

What you'll do

  • Process and oversee biweekly payroll through iSolved, ensuring accuracy and on-time completion.
  • Audit timecards, overtime, and PTO usage for compliance with company policy and Illinois law; resolve discrepancies with Operations and Scheduling.
  • Maintain payroll records and documentation to support audits.
  • Administer leave programs (Illinois Paid Leave Act, FMLA as applicable, and internal PTO policies), including tracking balances, eligibility, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws; maintain HR compliance documentation and support audits.
  • Lead full-cycle recruitment for RBTs, BCBAs, and administrative staff; partner with clinic leaders to prioritize staffing needs.
  • Manage job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, offers, background checks, and onboarding readiness.
  • Track hiring metrics including time-to-fill and first-90-day retention.
  • Facilitate onboarding (paperwork, system setup, orientation coordination) and ensure licenses/certifications/credentials are complete and compliant.
  • Maintain accurate employee records in HRIS and optimize HR systems including iSolved.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee concerns; coach managers and support performance processes including documentation, discipline, and PIPs.
  • Track HR metrics (turnover, absenteeism, retention trends) and provide insights to leadership.
  • Support development and implementation of HR policies, SOPs, and process improvements; collaborate with Operations, Clinical, and Finance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of HR experience (preferably in healthcare, ABA, or multi-site environments).
  • Experience processing payroll and managing employee leave programs.
  • Strong knowledge of Illinois labor laws and HR compliance requirements.
  • Experience with HRIS/payroll systems (iSolved preferred).
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Preferred: experience in ABA therapy or healthcare services; familiarity with CentralReach or similar practice management systems; experience supporting a high-volume hourly workforce (e.g., RBTs); SHRM-CP or PHR certification.
