Summary
Breakaway Group is a premier entertainment and music festival multimedia company producing the largest independent touring music festival in North America across 13 cities. They are hiring an HR Manager to run day-to-day people operations, including payroll, benefits, compliance, and HR systems, while supporting hiring and employee lifecycle processes as the company scales.
What you'll do
- Manage bi-weekly payroll for employees and payments for contractors using Rippling.
- Ensure accurate payroll processing including wages, bonuses, reimbursements, and deductions; maintain payroll records and compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Coordinate contractor payments and maintain contractor agreements and documentation.
- Review and support offer letters and employment agreements; assist with offer execution.
- Oversee and improve onboarding processes; support off-boarding logistics including final payroll, documentation, and system access removal.
- Administer healthcare, retirement, and additional benefits programs; serve as primary contact for employee benefits questions.
- Manage benefits enrollments, changes, and annual renewals; partner with benefits brokers.
- Support and manage the Rippling HRIS; maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws; file required documentation with tax and regulatory agencies.
- Coordinate and track required compliance trainings (e.g., harassment prevention, workplace policies).
- Maintain HR policies and the employee handbook with the HR team.
- Support performance review cycles and related HR documentation.
- Serve as a point of contact for employee questions and HR-related requests.
- Continuously improve HR processes and systems to support company growth.
Requirements
- 4–7+ years of experience in HR operations, people operations, or HR management.
- Experience managing payroll for employees and contractors.
- Experience administering benefits and HR systems (Rippling preferred).
- Strong knowledge of U.S. employment law and HR compliance.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing organization.
Preferred:
- Experience at a startup, agency, entertainment, or live events company.
- Experience managing multi-state payroll and compliance.
- Experience supporting a contractor-heavy organization.
