Absence Management Claim Specialist

Summary

The Absence Management Claim Specialist manages employee leave claims (e.g., FMLA/ADA) to deliver timely, accurate decisions and exemplary customer service while adhering to regulatory and plan requirements.

What you'll do

  • Handle, review, and administer FMLA standalone/ADA and other leave claims in compliance with federal/state regulations and company plan requirements.
  • Evaluate claims against appropriate leave plans and make initial claim decisions following established workflows.
  • Complete eligibility decisions during intake calls and gather pertinent information from employees and supporting systems.
  • Perform required follow-ups, including health-condition recertification, intermittent leave tracking, and return-to-work (RTW) confirmation.
  • Update systems to accurately reflect leave status and ensure complete diary/documentation notes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1–2 years of related experience with a strong customer satisfaction focus and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking in activities involving analysis, investigation, and/or planning.
  • Strong letter-writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word.
  • Preferred:

    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • 1–2 years of experience managing ADA, FMLA, or absence management.
    • Knowledge of system applications and disability claims; working knowledge of FMLA/disability/leave procedures.
    • 1+ year of experience with one or more state and federal leave laws.

Conditions

  • Location: Virtual (US-based).
  • Schedule: Pacific or Mountain Time Zone hours.
  • Compensation: Eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation (per plan terms).
