Summary
Private equity–backed platform building and scaling a next-generation utility-scale power business across North America, focused on developing, financing, and operating generation assets. The company is seeking a founding CEO to build and scale a utility-scale IPP focused on Western U.S. WECC markets. The role leads strategy, team formation, and end-to-end execution across development, M&A, financing, and commercialization.
What you'll do
- Define and execute the long-term strategy to build a leading utility-scale IPP across WECC markets.
- Lead project origination, site selection, interconnection, permitting, and overall development execution.
- Drive M&A strategy, including acquisition of development-stage assets and platform expansion opportunities.
- Lead PPA origination and commercial strategy; engage utilities, large load customers, and power marketers.
- Oversee capital formation and structuring, including project finance, tax equity, and private equity-backed growth strategies.
- Build and lead an executive team across development, finance, operations, and regulatory functions.
- Establish disciplined development processes, risk management frameworks, and execution KPIs.
- Manage relationships with utilities, ISOs (CAISO/WECC), regulators, EPC contractors, and capital providers.
- Serve as the primary interface with the Board and investors.
Requirements
- Senior leadership experience within a utility-scale IPP or power developer.
- Deep experience in WECC markets (CAISO strongly preferred).
- Strong track record in PPA negotiations, interconnection strategy, and permitting.
- Experience executing M&A and portfolio build-out strategies.
- Proven ability to operate within a private equity–backed environment.
- Strong commercial acumen across power markets and contracting.
- Deep understanding of grid dynamics, interconnection queues, and development risk.
- Experience structuring and raising capital for infrastructure projects.
- Ability to build and scale teams in an early-stage, high-growth environment.
- Credibility with utilities, regulators, investors, and strategic partners.
- Entrepreneurial, execution-driven leadership; strong decision-making under ambiguity; high accountability and ability to attract top talent.
