Fire Division Chief
Summary
The City of Coronado is hiring a Fire Division Chief to direct, manage, and coordinate an assigned division within the Fire Department (e.g., Operations, Training, Fire Prevention, EOC/EM, EMS, or administrative functions). The role supports the Fire Chief with complex administrative leadership and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to deliver excellent fire and emergency services to the community.
What you'll do
Direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate the activities and operations of an assigned Fire Department division (may include Operations, Training, Fire Prevention, EOC emergency management, EMS, and general administrative functions).
Coordinate assigned division activities with other Fire Department divisions, other City departments, and outside agencies.
Provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Fire Chief.
Support department objectives related to customer service, fiscal responsibility, community cooperation, hazard reduction, emergency response, and disaster preparedness.
Requirements
At least eight (8) years of increasingly responsible full-time experience in fire suppression, prevention, and emergency medical response.
At least three (3) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility for a professional fire department.
Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in fire sciences, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
Ability to pass required selection steps, including examinations and a medical examination and background check.
Verification of legal right to work in the United States.
Conditions
Schedule: May be assigned a 40-hour per week schedule or a 56-hour per week shift schedule at the sole discretion of the Fire Chief.
Division assignment may be rotational at the discretion of the Fire Chief for succession planning and experience.
Compensation for additional hours worked during non-scheduled hours will be paid at the normal hourly rate.
Selection process includes tactical simulation (40%), written exercise (15%), and interviews/presentation (45%); candidates must score 70% or above in all components; eligibility list valid at least six months.
